The Pieve di Cadore exercise, which took place very recently on the Capo Teulada training ground, in Sardinia, made it possible to check the level of preparation and the operational capacities of the “Julia” Alpine Brigade in a combined arms context and joint. In addition to the 7th regiment of alpine hunters from Belluno (Veneto).

Several elements of the “Julia” took part in this exercise, during which the “combined arms” concept was able to be put into practice, with the 3rd land artillery regiment from Remanzacco (Friuli-Venezia Giulia) on 155 mm FH-70, the 2nd engineer regiment of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the light armored reconnaissance regiment “Piemonte Cavalleria” of Villa Opicina-Trieste (Friuli-Venezia Giulia ) on 8 x 8 Centauro cannon wheels and the logistics regiment “Julia” from Merano (Trentino-Alto Adige).

During the exercise, special effort was made to manage and coordinate indirect fire support structures, with the establishment of a JFST (Joint Fire Support Team). The joint component, with a JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) team on the ground, was provided by two Eurofighter Typhoons from 37° Stormo based in Trapani, Sicily, which carried out close air support (CAS) missions for ground troops.

Note also the participation of elements of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, which is stationed in northern Italy, in Vicenza (Veneto). A small curiosity: the heraldic emblem of the 3rd Reggimento Artiglieria Terrestre has always featured, on the right side, the now famous tryzub, the golden Byzantine trident symbol of Ukraine.
